A common problem among adolescents and older men is the development of excess fat or glandular tissue in the male breast. An estimated 40-60% of men suffer from this condition, which can occur in either one or both breasts, at some time in their lives. The cause of gynecomastia is not well understood, but it is suspected that hormonal changes often play a role. Anabolic steroids that contain estrogen, marijuana use, and prescribed hormones are a factor in some instances. Massive weight loss can also result in hanging breasts that detract from a man’s appearance.
Plastic surgery offers a solution for men who are troubled by this embarrassing condition. Through the use of ultrasonic liposuction most cases of gynecomastia can be corrected. The excess skin shrinks and contracts following liposuction leaving a smooth and normal contour to the breast area. Only in severe cases will skin and glandular tissue be required to be removed to create a firmer, flatter, and better contoured male breast.

Patients come into my office wanting their thighs, abdomen, flanks, and arms improved. Despite diet and exercise, they are unable to loose the excess fat that has accumulated in these areas.
Liposuction is the solution. This is one of the safest procedure I perform. There is a lot of advertisements for some non-invasive procedures to correct this problem. Unfortunately, these other techniques result in minimal improvement. If a patient really wants to correct the bulges, liposuction is the only effective way to obtain excellent results. Be careful of newspaper and magazine articles proposing techniques that are not well studied and tested.

After performing over 1.000 liposuction procedures, I have found this surgery to achieve the results patients desire. Many of us would like to remove the unwanted bulges in our thighs, arms, flanks, abdomen and back. Unfortunately, diet and exercise will not remove these unwanted fat deposits in all cases. Liposuction is the solution in these patients. With minimal downtime, bruising, pain, and 1 to 2 hours of surgery, these unwanted areas are removed. The final results are lasting and the complications rare. It is exciting for me to see such happy people following this procedure.
